Sympathizing is not only applicable on good times. Reality is that people need our attention and time once they are struggling.
I was greatly disappointed when I heard some christians say that they get tired talking to people about problems. They say that instead of being happy and blooming all day, heavy burdens fill their hearts whenever they hear problematic stories.
